Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge

What comes first into your mind when people mention to you about Geylang? I know what are you thinking but anyway Geylang do have some mouth-watering food as well. One of it is Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge.

I didn't knew that Malacca do have a branch of Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge restaurant till one of my friend told me 2 weeks ago. I was surprised to know that the location of the restaurant was actually situated at the road along Wazen Japanese Restaurant which I used to pass by quite often apparently.

What actually so special about this restaurant? As its name clearly stated Frog Porridge, so definitely we need to try the frog. :)

For your info, Geylang Lor 9 Frog Porridge Restaurant was origin from Singapore. They do have other branches across other countries such as Taiwan, Indonesia & China besides Malaysia. However, the one in Melaka Raya was the first in Malacca. There are rumors saying that a new outlet might open soon in Melaka Baru since the one in Melaka Raya is earning quite well.

Even though I hate eating porridge (my last porridge was like 6 months ago), however as for this circumstance, my colleague insists that I should take porridge instead of rice as the frog is best to be eaten with porridge. I assented & relented to go for porridge somehow.

The frog can be served in 2 types which are Kong Poh or Steam Ginger. The price of the frog was sold based on per piece. One piece will cost you RM 10. However, it will be RM 28 if you order 3 pieces which would be just enough for 4 eaters. So, we decided to go for Kong Poh Style for 3 pieces. The frog was very spicy. This was mainly due to some "small Chili (Cili Padi)” was added inside to make the gravy even more tasty & spicy. Just a warning to those who dislike spicy food as you may find it a bit hot. So get ready with some ice water perhaps. Besides that, they do have other side dishes which I found it ordinary only. We did order fried Egg, Thai Style Chicken &  Yu Mek (Vegetables). The fried egg was a too salty while the Thai style chicken was not spicy after all. No comment for the vegetable. Total Damage for this dinner was around RM 61.20 for 4 people

Thai Style Chicken RM 8 Per Plate

Basically, I would rate it 7.5/10. However, it is worth trying for those who has never taste frog before. Glad that I did not defy my colleague when she ask me to go for porridge as the taste was overwhelming after all. Yes, I do really mean it. As for the price wise, I felt it is quite reasonable. Maybe next time I might not order for the side dishes as I felt that Porridge & the frog would just serve you enough for the night.
